Jebel Shams

Jebel Shams is the highest mountain peak in the Sultanate of Oman. Its name, meaning ‘Mountain of the Sun’ reflects the fact that the sun first rises and last sets on its lofty summit. The location boasts moderate summer temperatures ranging between 25 and 26 degrees Celsius, while winter brings freezing temperatures and snowfall, with temperatures dropping below 7 degrees Celsius. Rising approximately 3009 meters above sea level, Jebel Shams has significantly influenced the climate in the region compared to other areas in the Sultanate. It is characterized by unique geological formations, including the impressive Grand Canyon, the second-largest canyon in the world, along the ascending road to its summit.
