Bahla Fort is one of Oman’s significant forts, listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Located in the Interior Governorate of the Wilayat of Bahla, it was the first site in the interior regions to be recognized as world heritage on 29 December 1987 by UNESCO as a cultural reserve in Oman.
Dating back to the third millennium BCE, the fort has ties to ancient civilizations in Mesopotamia and Persia. The defensive walls, terraces, strongholds, shooting slits, and guard houses of Bahla Fort were evidently designed for defense and served a strategic role on the borders.
